I stumbled upon a couple. Picked up the ‘55 Featherweight at a gun show yesterday. Damn nice. I like that XTR FWT as well!! Very clean rifles man..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Just saw a sweet XTR FWT 30-06. Not sure if it is worth $800.00 though. It's a sweetheart though, with nice wood. The downfall is the recoil pad has been changed out. Someone did a horrible job on it too, so a red pachmayr would need to be added. It's one with featherweight scrolled on the barrel too. 190xxxx serial number, so likely a 1989 model. Clean bolt face and sharp lands, with no wear on the bluing at the muzzle. Has a lot of life left in it.

I do know the right hand side said "featherweight" in cursive. I'm buying a pistola there and told them I may buy the rifle as well. I'll check it out better when I go in to pick up my new pistol. It's an XTR FWT, so I'm assuming it says XTR on the side though. Some say 1988 was the last year they used that designation, so that is a great question. I'll be sure to check that tomorrow or Wednesday. Thanks! I'll let you know what I find out.

Very nice! what cartridge ? Thanks! The Pre’64 is a 30-06 and the other is a 270. Both very nice rifles, but that '55 FW really catches my eye. I do not need another rifle but I would have had a real hard time walking away from that, congrats!

Here is the 270 The 30-06 goes to my 25 year old boy and the 270 to my 16 month old when he’s ready. I can’t think of much better than passing those two along to my boys to bump and bang up chasing deer and elk. I’ll get some better pictures once they come home to me, but they aren’t anything but mid 50’s Featherweights but I’ll bet they shoot.

Great choices there buddy!!

Thanks. Me either. My older already has a few good rifles and loves his 7x57 Featherweight so I figure the 06 is a good one for him. The younger one don't have nothin yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if more doesn't show up for him in the next few years I know Bob would approve!

AK, what do we call them if it does not say XTR on the side of it? Just a featherweight? Seems weird because it is an XTR by all rights. I was thinking about driving in to town to look at it again..

Not sure, BSA. I just call them the post xtr featherweights; I don’t know of a better way to designate them. Maybe we should designate them the scroll featherweights.

Mine doesn’t have “XTR” on it but it does have the cursive “Featherweight”. Serial # G19064xx They look exactly like an XTR, but don't have that nomenclature on it. I know we've talked about this and when they stopped using "XTR". Just wondering why? This one also has an "A" at the end of the serial # as well. I can't remember if that means it is a duplicate serial #??

Right now, I'm building up my discretionary fund for a pretty nice Italian shotgun, but a nice Model 70 in the right caliber is one of several things that might bump that shotgun back a bit.

Did the XTR go away when Winchester sold out in 1981? Or possibly they did away with the XTR on the Featherweights and kept using it on the sporter weight rifles??
